Top Ten Tuesday - Books I Loved Less Than I Thought I Would

http://www.brokeandbookish.com/p/top-ten-tuesday-other-features.htmlSo, if I have an opinion about a book before I read it, I will almost always like it less than I think I will. I try to avoid as much information about a book as possible, except for possibly a brief summary (like on the book jacket). This is why I get so pissed when the story turns out to be nothing like the summary! But, anyhoo…

Here are 10 books that failed to live up to my own mental – hype. Note: Book cover pics were found on the internet and link to the book's goodreads page.)

Dead Until Dark (Sookie Stackhouse #1) by Charlaine Harris:I read this a million years ago. You never know. Maybe I’ll like it if I give it another chance. I probably never will though.

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6185.Wuthering_HeightsWuthering Heights by Emily Bronte: Why do people keep listing this as one of the greatest books of all time? I wanted to die the whole time!

Damned by Chuck Palahniuk: This was the first CP book I read that I didn’t love. So he created that hype for me, himself!

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs: I liked this book fine, but not as much as everyone else, apparently. I might finish the series someday.

Orange is the New Black by Piper Kerman: Just. No.

In the Unlikely Event by Judy Blume: I was supposed to like this, I know. But, really, if I had known it was based on true events, I would have lowered by initial estimations.

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/23899174-in-the-unlikely-eventWicked by Gregory Maguire: This spurred one of my favorite musicals, but sadly, I did not care for the book. It’s sad because disliking the book actually kept me from seeing the musical for a while.

Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore: I think this book is best for people with some religious upbringing/ knowledge. So you can get all the references. It was highly recommended by a friend who grew up in Catholic school and she thought it was hilarious.

I Crawl Through It by A.S. King: It was super weird. Another example of loving an author and assuming you will love all of their works just as much. Ask the Passengers was great

The Good Thief by Hannah Tinti: Recommended reading from basically everyone. I liked it, no doubt. But just expected to like it more. It's on my list to reread, soon.

Wild by Cheryl Strayed: I won’t go, AGAIN, into how much I hate this memoir more and more each day.

  1. I thought Lamb was hilarious the first time I read it and a little boring the second.

Wuthering Heights was so awful. We read it in high school, and I thought Jane Eyre was a breath of fresh air after reading WH even though Jane Eyre is way longer.
