What I've Been Reading: September Reads

I don’t think I’m too late to talk about my September Reads, am I? Haha! I don’t care what you think! I’m gonna do it!!

One of the things that I notice about my reading is that when I am busy, I tend to read more audiobooks with fewer print books completed. And September includes 11 days of Rochester Fringe Festival! Which is AWESOME!! Here’s some pics!! At the end of September, I had 3 books that were just hanging out on my “currently reading” shelf.  None of them were bad, they just weren’t calling me back to them after I got distracted. I’ve moved them all off the shelf and returned them to the library. Maybe they will find me again when I’m a person who can appreciate them.

Let’s see… The good, the bad, and the I only read this because book club made me:

Was July "Men Are Trash" Month or is it just me?

I’m having a hard time tolerating (fictional) trash men, right now. And either I'm surrounded by them or I'm a little too intuned to potential trash behavior. I'm willing to recognize that maybe it's at least partially me.

What I've Been Reading - September 2017

I have only complete 6 books this month! Mostly because I’ve only done audio-books and haven’t had much time to read through the eyeballs. Check out my post fromyesterday if you don’t believe me! Luckily, I'm ahead of schedule for my book goal for the year.

Also on the plus side, I did get an opportunity to use my puppet on stage! I'm actually thinking they may need their own instagram or something. Because I think the people need more #CustardThePuppetTroll.

Here's what I read, though.

September Wrap Up or Why I Sucked at Posting This Month

Well. Look at that. It’s time for a September wrap up post. Also known as the only possibly - book related post of September!
It’s been a bit of a busy month. This post is just to share about what I’ve been doing to justify to myself why I’ve barely posted anything this month. My post scheduled for tomorrow will be what I’ve been reading.
Note: this picture of a cicada shell has nothing to do with anything. I just needed a picture for before the page break and this one is cool. Still figuring out how to use this damn Canon.

July Recap, Part 2: Shows

It might seem a little early for a July wrap up post, it’s only the 26th. But I figured I would write it while the mood was upon me. And I’m going to split it up a little between books I’ve read (posted yesterday) and shows I’ve seen. So this is part 2 – Shows!

July Recap, Part 1: Books

It might seem a little early for a July wrap up post, it’s only the 26th. But I figured I would write it while the mood was upon me. And I’m going to split it up a little between books I’ve read and shows I’ve seen. So this is part 1 – Books! (The other one will be about theatre. duh)

So, let me tell you about what I've been reading.

May Recap, in Pictures!

Jeez. When was the last time I did a wrap up post? Perhaps this is a whole new leaf I’m turning over! Just kidding.

I don’t really want to do a whole recap post… so here’s a barrage of pictures!! I might come back and break this up into smaller bite- size pieces… but probably not.

Clear A Shelf Wrapup and December Outbox

HAPPY NEW YEAR Y’ALL!!
It’s hard to believe that it is 2017. My guess is that it feels a lot like 2016. Here’s hoping that we aren’t embarking on the beginning of the end of the world as we know it. I will be honest, though. If the dystopian future is about to happen, I am definitely going to be part of the over- controlled (but possibly rebellious) group within the walls who have electricity and central heating. I ain’t gonna lie. I don’t like temporary camping. I definitely wouldn’t survive as a member of the Resistance holed up in the woods.

Anywhoo…

We all know that outbox posts are harder if they cover the whole month. And, yet, of all the posts I did in December, none of them were outbox posts. Welp. And because I don’t want to do a separate post for the Clear A Shelf challenge, I’m smooshing that in here, too!

Here are the highlights for the month.

October is finally over - Horror-tober Wrap Up and Outbox

I hate the outbox posts that are really recaps for a whole month!! There's little to no motivation to talk about the books earlier in the month. But that’s my own torment after not doing a mid month update. Booooooo to me!

Here's me, again, in my Rocky Horror costume. We remounted the show for Halloween. It was a super fun completely ridiculous hot mess! I didn't see the one that was aired on TV, but I bet this one was better!

Anyway. Dewey's 24 hour Readathon bumped my number a little.

October was Horror-tober so I focused on horror options. Even the non-horror books were amazingly related in their explorations of the terrible things that people do to each other in the name of righteousness.

Highlights from the month: The Jasper Dent series, Invasion of the Tearling, And The Trees Crept In, and The Enchanted which was a reread for me. I also liked The Healing and the Crane Wife. And I definately like The Heart Goes Last better than The Handmaid's Tale.

Weird shit: We Eat Our Own and Welcome to the Night Vale.

Things to skip: Not Working. I just thought it was boring and the main character was like... bleghghhghhh.

Reviews from October

I Hunt Killers by Barry Lyga. There is also a series review coming up later this week.

September Recap, ft. my Blooming Boobs!

What the hell did I do all month, you ask!! Don’t even go there!

If you look back at my outbox post on October 12, you will see that I had read 3 books and was working on Rocky Horror all month. Here’s some updated pictures from the show/ rehearsal! That’s me with the #BloomingBoobs. (more pics after the jump)

July 2016 Recap (Outbox)

I’m determined to do a July recap, because I totally missed doing one for June, it’s like the days were just flying by!

I did an Outbox post about 10 days ago (click). I’ve read 3 books since then, bringing my total for the month to a measly 9 books. Ok. It’s not that measly, but I like to end on an even number! I tried to finish the book I’m in the middle of before bed last night but it wasn’t worth it.

How many days past the beginning of the month is a “last month’s wrap up post” considered late?

Total Books Read: 22 (More than usual because of the reading challenges)

What I've Been Reading (Outbox and March Recap 2016)

It's been a good month. I've read 9 books in the last two-ish weeks. [I posted about the first of the month earlier.] I don't think April will be quite as good because I've got tickets to two shows ( The Wizard of Oz and Matilda the Musical), the show I'm in runs two weekends and opens on the 15 (Charlotte's Web) and it's time to start making plans for the new training year at work. Boo to adulting.

Outbox: Recap for December and the whole damn year (2015)

OK. This is my last post specifically about 2015. I had a couple of different "2015 summary" posts in mind but I've decided this is just going to be it. Last one. I'm done with 2015; It's the 10th for sobbing out loud. So this one's is really two posts in one: the December Outbox (which includes four weeks of reading) and 2015 reflection crap. Enjoy. Or whatever.

#NaBloPoMo is No Mo! (November Recap)

Yay! I made it through my first National Blog Post Month! Wooo hooo! Happy blog posting dance. NaBloPoMo is a challenge to post every day of a given month. You can do it any month, but November tends to be the big one, to coincide with National Novel Writing Month.

Of the 30 days in November, I only failed to post 4 times.... well, technically it was 6 times but I posted twice the next day on both those other times to make up for it. It's MY challenge, I can do whatever I want!! And I blame Book Riot Live and the Unofficial Book Crawl for one of those. I blame two of them on having my uterus taken out. Totally legit reasons.

I am really glad that I participated. I've been trying to get more involved with my blog and this was a great way to keep it on my radar, to motivate me to post even when I wasn't even really interested in posting, kinda the whole point of making a goal. I'm glad that there were times that I drafted/ started a few posts that I could just review and edit and post when I needed to.

It also helped me review more books, which is something that I am trying to get better at. It really is a skill and I'm still a little shaky, preferring the short mini review focused on my feelings about the book, rather than describing the book and ANALYZING elements of it. Is anyone interested in my analyzing things? I'm really not, though, sometimes a book with remind me of some other issue or concept or thing and might include some talk about that in my review. (Like when I read It's Kind of a Funny Story) I'm trying to get a handle on my reviewing style which has been pretty inconsistent. But, I guess, what I like about blogging is 1) that I really write it for myself and it can be whatever I want it to be at the time and 2) it gives me a chance to write down a few things about books before I move on to the next one.
