Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Feel Differently About Now

May 24:  Ten Books I Feel Differently About After Time Has Passed (less love, more love, complicated feelings, indifference, thought it was great in a genre until you became more well read in that genre etc.)

I love this topic!! But once again I am going to split it up a little bit because I’m not sure I can think of ten things.

For me, because I read so much, I lose details of books pretty quickly so I’m mostly left with how I FEEL about a book: good or yuck?

If I am still thinking about something in a book many months later, I sometime go back and change my Goodreads rating. So many books are forgettable, so remembering it must mean something right? I only do this if my sentiment about the book improves. If I dislike it more, I just leave it as it is.

After Some Time:

1. A Tale for the Time Being - the more I think about the characters, the more I love this story.

2. We Are Called to Rise - this becomes better and better in my mind. I can never reread it for fear of bursting a bubble. [My review]

3. The Rest of Us Just Live Here - The concept for this book was great, as was the parallel synopses of the “chosen one” story running at the top of the chapters. [My review]

4. They Cage the Animals at Night - If I think about this too much I will cry right here in this library!

5. Wild - The longer the space of time between me and this book the worse and worse it gets. Not only was the main character annoying and ridiculous, the whole thing just smacks of annoying ridiculousness.

After Rereading Them:

6. The Hunger Games - [Here’s my post] while rereading this. It remains one of my favorite YA series, but the reread wasn’t as good. I actually think it was because I could think about it with less emotion the second time… but also, the audiobook reader was not ideal.

7. A Wrinkle in Time - It might be that I just forgot everything but I really didn’t like this one that much. Or, more precisely, there were parts that I really didn’t like.

8. Little Women - Was this so boring the first time I read it?

After I Heard Someone Else Talk about Them

9. The Red Tent - This book was chosen for a book club pick a couple of years ago. I lost the book before I finished it but I didn’t really think it was that bad. Since then, it has sort of become the joke of the book club that it was a horrible pick and that no one liked it. I didn’t think it was that bad. But don’t tell them I said that.

10. The Age of Miracles - This was super boring. I kept waiting for something profound to happen. But, as the “If All of Rochester Reads the Same Book” book pick, there have been several discussions about it. I hate it less now. But I still wouldn’t recommend it to anyone I like.
