So,
if I have an opinion about a book before I read it, I will almost always like
it less than I think I will. I try to avoid as much information about a book as
possible, except for possibly a brief summary (like on the book jacket). This
is why I get so pissed when the story turns out to be nothing like the summary!
But, anyhoo…
Here
are 10 books that failed to live up to my own mental – hype. Note: Book cover
pics were found on the internet and link to the book's goodreads page.)
Dead Until Dark (Sookie Stackhouse #1) by
Charlaine Harris:I read this a million years ago. You never know. Maybe I’ll like it if I give
it another chance. I probably never will though.
Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte: Why do people
keep listing this as one of the greatest books of all time? I wanted to die the
whole time!

whole time!Damned by Chuck Palahniuk: This was the first CP book I read that I didn’t love. So he created that hype for me, himself!
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs: I liked this book fine, but not as much as everyone else, apparently. I might finish the series someday.
Orange is the New Black by Piper Kerman: Just. No.
In the Unlikely Event by Judy Blume: I was supposed to like this, I know. But, really, if I had known it was based on true events, I would have lowered by initial estimations.
Wicked by Gregory Maguire: This spurred one
of my favorite musicals, but sadly, I did not care for the book. It’s sad
because disliking the book actually kept me from seeing the musical for a
while. I Crawl Through It by A.S. King: It was super weird. Another example of loving an author and assuming you will love all of their works just as much. Ask the Passengers was great.

I thought Lamb was hilarious the first time I read it and a little boring the second.
ReplyDeleteWuthering Heights was so awful. We read it in high school, and I thought Jane Eyre was a breath of fresh air after reading WH even though Jane Eyre is way longer.
